Invictus Poem

                                           INVICTUS

Out of the night that covers me,                Más allá de la noche que me cubre
Black as the pit from pole to pole,           negra como el abismo insondable
I thank whatever gods may be                 doy gracias a cuales dioses fuere
For my unconquerable soul.                     por mi alma inconquistable.
In the fell clutch of circumstance               En la cruel garra de la circunstancia
I have not winced nor cried aloud.             no he gemido ni llorado.
Under the bludgeonings of chance             Sometido a los golpes del azar
My head is bloody, but unbowed.              mi cabeza sangra, pero está erguida.
Beyond this place of wrath and tears        Más allá de este lugar de ira y llantos
Looms but the horror of the shade,           yace sino el horror de la sombra,
And yet the menace of the years               Y aún la amenaza de los años
Finds and shall find me unafraid.               me halla y me hallará sin temor.
It matters not how strait the gate,            No importa cuán estrecha sea la puerta
How charged with punishments                cuán cargada de castigos
the scroll,                                                 la sentencia.

I am the master of my fate,                        Soy el amo de mi destino,
I am the captain of my soul                        Soy el capitán de mi alma.
